Hun, perming your hair makes your hair break and it makes it break fast!!!! you shouldnt have relaxed it, but since you did theres nothing much you can do to make it go back natural. All you can do is stop perming it or relaxing it and when you braid it, dont pull too tight because that way your hair breaks faster. No. It won't. The only reason why it seems dreads grow faster is because of the downward pull of the hair. It stimulates the scalp. "Nappy hair" doesn't grow. Well kept, maintained hair grows. If your getting more protein etc in your diet and treat your hair, then it will be healthier and grow at a faster pace then someone who didnt. A little dirt won't hurt. Now don't go and put dirt into your hair. What I am saying is don't always keep washing it. Washing it too much can wash out the oils and goodness in it. When I stopped washing mine so much and let it go for a week more it grew really fast. My Goal is to have my hair down to my butt by the time I go to an special event. Also try the shampoos others said like Mane and tail, or hair vitamins. A lot of Vitamin E may help. Just don't over do it. I hope it works. GNC has a supplement called "Nourishair" that makes the hair grow faster, you can read what's in it by googling it. Be warned these pills are HUGE and you have to take 2 a day.

I was a hair stylist for 13 years and one of the funniest requests I ever got was "I need a hair cut but I don't want it any shorter!" Talk about a challenge! Why do you have to get a hair cut once a month - if you can get around that - Here's what you do - go six months with no haircut - hair, on the average grows about a half an inch each month - depends on your general health and care of your hair - some is slower and some faster - but go six months without getting it cut - then visit your stylist and tell him or her what your eventual goal is and that you'd like a "trim" just to keep the ends from looking split - then go another six months and repeat - I would purchase a head band or two and a couple of pony tail holders to keep it up off your face and neck till you get used to the length otherwise it is going to drive you nuts till you get it to the length you want - then re-visit the stylist and look into styles for long hair - another way to be able to stand it during the growing out phase is to get a really tight perm - one you only need to "pick out" like we wore in the 70's - old fashioned I know but you'd be amazed at how easy it is and it seems to grow faster - by the time the perm is grown off you've got long hair!
